Summary
Adonai Mitchell is a former 4-star recruit who began his collegiate career for the University of Georgia. Despite missing a majority of the 2022 season with an ankle injury, he was a key contributor in the playoffs for the championship winning Bulldogs. In the 2023 off-season he transferred to Texas and emerged as a top target for yet another CFB playoff bound team. Mitchell has excellent size for the position. Texas listed him at 6’ 4” and with super long arms that gives him a massive catch radius. Mitchell is at his best operating outside the numbers on vertical routes. He has a tantalizing blend of speed and quickness that when combined with plus body control and ball tracking makes him a talented vertical receiver. Mitchell primary won at the college level with his superior athleticism. Tremendous burst, balance and foot quickness allows him to quickly release off the ball and separate from man coverage. He has strong sticky hands that pluck the ball out of the air, making him a dependable weapon at all three levels. Consistency and polish are Mitchell’s two biggest concerns right now. He struggles to fully take advantage of his physical gifts as a route runner, showing a very basic understanding how to stem his routes to attack space and leverage. Mitchell also struggles attacking soft spots in zone coverage, often floating aimlessly as the play unfolds. Teams will also have questions about his effort and attention to detail. He shows flashes of being a crisp route runner but often rounds his breaks allowing defenders back into the play. He also fails to make an impact as a blocker despite his quickness and length. Mitchell has a rail thin frame at sub-200 lbs and it limits not only his ability to win through contact as a receiver but as a ball carrier and blocker as well. Mitchell has all the physical tools to be a legit WR1 at the next level. At only 21 years old with one true full year of starting there is plenty of untapped potential left in him. Mitchell’s talent will find him selected within the Top-50 picks of the draft but his boom-bust profile has a wide range of future outcomes.
