Summary
After an illustrious three year career, Brock Bowers leaves Georgia with one of the most impressive resumes for a tight-end in college football history. The 3x All-American and 2x National Champion was a model of consistency, logging 55+ REC, 700+ YDS and 6+ TDs in all three seasons. Bowers is a special athlete for the position, his fluid movement skills and straight-line burst is rare for WRs let alone TE’s. His ability to create with the ball in his hands was a focal point of the Bulldogs offense during his time there, they loved to get him the ball on screens, jet sweeps and crossers to highlight his speed and contact balance. Bowers was used in a variety of alignments, anywhere from in-line to out wide and sometimes even in the backfield. An efficient processor he is capable of keying and diagnosing coverage extremely quickly. His combination of athletic ability and instincts made him a high end separator against DBs and LBs alike, regardless of alignment or coverage. Despite being undersized at 240 pounds, Bowers more than holds his own as a blocker due to plus play strength and fantastic effort and toughness. Bowers is at his best as a blocker out in space, where his understanding of angles and good movement skills allow him to wall off defenders. Drive or power blocks are a big more difficult for him due to his lack of size. Bowers uses good pad level and solid hand work to get the jump on defensive lineman and wall them off but lacks the power to create displacement. At best he is able to create a stalemate at the line of scrimmage but fails to consistently create big running lanes at the point of attack. He is at his most effective when asked to combo block up to smaller linebackers or used as a lead blocker from wing alignments in order to weaponize his movement skills. Bowers projects to be an immediate impact starter at the next level. His ability to win with technique or athleticism as a receiver and ball carrier will make him a versatile weapon for any offense. He has enough technique and strength to make it as a blocker in the NFL despite likely never being an impact player in that regard due to his size. Bowers has a shot to be one of the higher drafted TE’s in recent years because TE’s with his receiving skillset rarely are net positives in the run game as well.
