Summary
Andre Carter II is a long athletic EDGE rusher who wins with quickness and length off the edge. For a 6’ 7” player he gets off the line surprisingly quick and does a really nice job changing up his rush path to turn around tackles. He has good bend off the edge but it is not elite. He needs improve his finishing steps, tends to get blocked out of the play at the last moment after an initial win. The spin move and rip through are his two favorite ways to attack lineman but he needs to add more secondary moves. As a taller, lighter player he struggles with leverage and power at the point of attack. His best plays come when he is aggressive but he can sometimes take himself out of plays. His length is a major asset when it comes to setting the edge in run defense. Army dropped him into coverage on occasion which he can do and his length is a disruptive factor but lack of instincts and lower body stiffness means it is not his forte. With some of his best reps coming at 5T with his hand in the dirt an NFL team will likely try to add bulk to his frame and make him a true EDGE not an OLB like he was in college. Carter had some fantastic production in his college career but competition level will be a concern. Carters length and footwork are NFL ready if he can add some mass to his frame as well as improve his pass rush arsenal he could end up being a very good #2 at the next level.
