Summary
Andrew Vorhees committed to USC as a three star recruit out of California. The versatile lineman started in all six of his seasons for the Trojans (outside of 2019 where he suffered an injury in Week 2). He logged over 1,000 snaps at both guard spots and logged time at both tackle spots as well. Vorhees only allowed 4 sacks over his final four seasons at USC. He did unfortunately suffer an ACL injury at the combine in 2023 which limited his availability in the draft process and he will likely not be ready to start the season as a rookie.
Vorhees is a big powerful run blocker. A former tackle, he has a massive frame and wingspan for a guard. In the run game he is able to consistently displace defenders with his power at the point of attack. His hands pack a tremendous punch and he is always looking for work as a run blocker. While his lateral agility is not his best trait he shows enough to be used in zone and gap schemes. Vorhees does struggle to consistently climb to the second level and sustain blocks. He has a poor habit of stopping his feet when engaging with defenders. Vorhees is a taller player that naturally struggles with leverage. On occasion he gets caught out over his knees and gets ripped off balance.
As a pass protector Vorhess does a good job of varying his pass sets. A powerful player he displays strong anchor ability versus power rushers. Vorhees has quick accurate strikes with his hands. He does an excellent job of resetting his hands in pass protection. Hand placement will be important for him because he lacks recovery speed. Lateral agility is not a major concern but quicker pass rushers are able to get hip to hip with him and he lacks the footwork to recover. Vorhees also has to fight his natural leverage in pass protection where defenders are able to get under his pads and drive him backwards. It doesn’t help that he is a natural catcher in pass protection, often setting deeper than he needs to. Vorhees experience shines through as a pass protector where he does an excellent job squeezing the A gap and passing off stunts.
Vorhees age and physical profile does not indicate a massive ceiling but he is the type of player you know what you are getting game in and game out. He is a long physical player that has enough movement skills to play in most schemes. Experience playing both sides at tackle and guard is extremely valuable to any team trying to “get their best five” out there at all times. However, his off season injury and declaration age (24 on draft night) likely will knock him down on draft night. Vorhees projects as a starter at either guard spot in the NFL that is scheme versatile. His best fit is at LG in a gap run scheme.
