Summary
Anton Harrison committed to Oklahoma as a 4-Star recruit from Washington DC in 2019. Over the course of his career for the Sooners he played in over 30 games at left tackle only giving up 4 sacks in those 3 years. At 6’ 4” 315 with 34” arms Harrison is built like an NFL caliber left tackle.
Harrison is an excellent move blocker in the run game. He shows excellent first step quickness to cut off backside defenders when climbing to the second level. He also utilizes a strong reach step in zone blocking concepts. Harrison is balanced and in control while on the move, doing an excellent job of sustaining his blocks in space. He is a much better blocker on zone scheme concepts as opposed to gap scheme. Harrison tends to be stiff and upright in his stance as a run blocker, often struggling to maintain leverage in the run game. He does not display the play strength or finishing ability one would like to see from a left tackle. His hand placement in the run game is inconsistent. Harrison gets caught grabbing with his hands wide far too often.
As a pass protector Harrison’s movement skills and length pop on tape. He has the footspeed to vary his sets and relies on his length to recover. He shows excellent patience with his hands and feet when in pass protection. His punches are quick and powerful, which allows him to immediately disarm pass rushers on first contact. Harrison has above average redirect ability as well as awareness when not immediately engaged. The leverage issues and play strength that plague Harrison in the run game also show up in pass protection. He struggles to anchor versus speed to power quite frequently. Harrison is inconsistent in how he marries his hands and feet in pass protection. Too often he stops his feet on deep drops forcing him to try and recover at the last minute. Harrison needs to do a better job cleaning up his technique as a pass protector to fully realize his physical skill set
Anton Harrison has the prototypical size and length of an NFL level franchise LT. With his pass protection skills and movement abilities he has a sky high ceiling. There will be questions about his technique, especially given his age (21 on draft night) and upside. Harrison projects as a starting NFL LT tackle who best fits in a pass first offense that majors in zone run concepts. He should be a lock to be a Top 50 pick in April with a legit shot to sneak into the Top 20.
