Summary
Bryan Bresee was a member of a few talented Clemson Tigers defensive lines over the past three years. Few players in this IDL class have the natural talent of Bresee. Despite this talent, his collegiate career has been far from easy despite playing at a top program in Clemson. Bresee has missed large chunks of time in both of the past two seasons. He struggled through injuries in 2021 and suffered the tragic loss of his sister Ella in 2022. Football stuff aside he is one of the most mentally tough and hardest working players in this class. On the field Bresee wins with his exceptional athleticism, particularly his first step quickness. Primarily a 3T, he does have the requisite physical traits to slide up and down the line defending on scheme and opponent. No matter where he lines up on the defensive line his burst makes him a dynamic penetrator in the run game. Bresee utilizes his length and hand power to disrupt opposing offensive lineman and read and react. High pad level and issues with leverage are a concern with Bresee, as he tends to struggle holding up against double teams at the point of attack. He projects to be a single gap slashing defensive lineman and won't be a snug fit for every team. As a pass rusher he primarily wins with his athletic tools. Due to inconsistent reps on the field over the past two years his pass rush plan lacks a lot of nuance. Poor production is a red flag on his scouting report and the tape reflects that, as most of his sacks come from winning off the line or his high motor. Bresee was thought of as a potentially high first round pick coming into the year because of his natural talent. That natural talent still exists but his game lacks nuance and refinement at this point in time. Teams with the time to let him develop will have a talented ball of clay they can mold, but expecting immediate contributions from him will lead to disappointment. Bresee's physical skill set indicates a high ceiling that should make him at worst a Day 2 pick in this draft.
