Summary
Christian Gonzalez has been a three year starter in the Pac-12 transferring from Colorado to Oregon in 2022 where he burst onto the NFL Draft scene. A long, athletic corner, Gonzalez loves to get up on the line of scrimmage and press receivers. His size and smooth footwork allows him to disrupt timings at the snap and rely on his athleticism to recover. For a taller player he is a smooth mover, his ability to throttle down with smaller players and mirror them from off coverage is very impressive. Gonzalez displays fluid hips and the long speed it takes to turn and run on longer developing routes. Primary a man corner in college, but has the length, instincts and closing speed to be an effective zone corner as well. A big improvement for Gonzalez in 2022 was his ball skills. He became a lot more consistent with tracking the ball while running and it led to a career high in pass breakups and defensive scores. He still needs to improve his play strength, with his leaner frame he can struggle with physicality at the top of routes and at the catch point. A solid tackler in space Gonzalez has the ability to make an impact in the run game. At his size you would like to see him be more aggressive and impactful in his run fits but it's certainly not a big red flag on his profile. Teams looking for a top tier CB in the draft that has the IQ and athleticism to fit any scheme and line up all over the formation will have a close eye on him. Gonzalez fits the mold of a top NFL corner when it comes to his physical profile, when combined with his instincts and ball skills he has all the makings of CB1 in this class.
