Summary
Jahmyr Gibbs transferred to Alabama from Georgia Tech in 2022 and burst onto the national stage as one of the most dynamic backs in all of college football. A smaller back with tremendous burst and acceleration he is a nightmare in the open field. His decisive one-cut running style and home run speed makes zone scheme terror, especially when all he needs is a glimpse of a hole on the cutback. His lateral mobility makes him difficult to take down in space and Gibbs has a tremendous ability to get small and reduce the contact area for defenders. Gibbs possesses good vision and understands how his speed can threaten second level defenders. He does have a slight tendency to over run his blockers, and needs to add a touch more patience to his game. Gibbs lacks traditional size and often struggles to run between the tackles. His small frame means it doesn’t take much contact to knock him down but he does have fantastic recovery balance if the initial hit does not take him down. A 3rd down weapon he is a natural receiver that has the change of direction skills to be an effective route runner. Gibbs ability to transition from receiver to ball carrier makes him a threat on check downs. Pass pro at his size can be troublesome vs bigger defenders but he is not afraid to stick his nose in there and understands his responsibilities. Gibbs should step in Day 1 at the NFL level and be a high level playmaker and big play threat. At his size he will probably never be a true workhorse back but his play style is tailor made for the modern NFL offense and should be a high pick because of the dynamism he possesses.
