Summary
Kelee Ringo, the former 5 star recruit out of Tacoma, Washington has been a staple in the secondary for the back to back defending national championship Bulldogs for two years now. An enticing blend of height, weight and speed he checks all the physical boxes you want from an outside corner. Easy long speed and smooth hips allows him to turn and run with most receivers. When his head is turned to the ball he plays with excellent insects and ball skills. Ringo has sticky hands in coverage that allow him to pluck the ball out of the air. For all his physical traits he doesn't seem to trust his athleticism as much as he should. Ringo is uncomfortable playing with his back to the QB and often bails too early in his drops exposing himself to routes back to the line of scrimmage. With his size and length Ringo projects to be an effective press man corner but poor footwork and hand placement often means he is playing reactionary football. He struggles to mirror quicker players and is often caught grabbing to keep himself in plays. His inability to change direction quickly in space makes him ineffective at covering longer developing routes. Lack of top end footspeed means Ringo is a very scheme specific corner. His best reps in college and long term NFL home come as a half turn Cover-3 corner where his athletic tools and instincts can shine. If playing CB doesn’t work at the next level Ringo would also make a quality safety given his frame. He brings power behind his tackles in space and while you would like to see more aggressive run fits he has the frame to be an impact run defender. Ringo won’t be every team's cup of tea given his issues with footwork and lack of comfortability playing underneath. However, he is a top tier athlete and is one of the youngest defenders in this class (20 on draft night), indicating large amounts of room for growth. Teams that run a lot of Cover-3 will rate him higher on their boards than most other teams given his zone coverage upside. A raw talented player Ringo has the chance to sneak in the back half of the first round if a team falls in love with his upside and believes they can utilize his current strengths in their defense as he develops more well rounded cover skills.
