Summary
Olusegun Oluwatimi originally committed to the Air Force out of high school before transferring to Virginia Tech in 2018. Oluwatimi was a three year starter for the Cavaliers before transferring to Michigan as a graduate student in 2022. The senior center didn’t allow a single sack in his final collegiate season.
Oluwatimi possesses plus movement skills for the center position. He displays excellent first step quickness that allows him to climb to the second level and complete difficult reach blocks. He also has the agility to pull and be a competent blocker out in the open field. Oluwatimi lacks power and explosion in his lower half. He does an excellent job of sealing off defenders with his footwork but struggles to displace defenders and open up running lanes. He also has issues maintaining leverage at the point of attack. A poor habit of dipping his head leads to Oluwatimi being thrown off balance too much. A lack of lower body flexibility and bend reduces his ability to recover.
Oluwatimi’s calling card is his ability in pass protection. His first step quickness and footwork allow him to mirror defenders in space. Despite his average power in the run game he has above average anchor ability and can absorb contact in pass protection. Oluwatimi shows quick and accurate strikes with his hands. He does an excellent job punching and resetting his hands in pass protection. When he is able to attach to defenders he displays top end hand strength. Oluwatimi’s four years of starting experience really shows up in pass protection where he does an excellent job picking up blitzes and stunts.
Oluwatimi has the experience and technique to be a starting caliber center at the next level. Lack of power and leverage in the run game likely means he is best suited to play in a zone run scheme at the next level. Oluwatimi projects as a fringe Day 2 pick in this years upcoming draft as a high floor, zone scheme center who should be able to be an immediate starter.
