Summary
Peter Skoronski originally committed to Northwestern as a 4-Star center prospect out of Illinois. He never actually played a snap at center inside, immediately stepping in at left tackle and logging over 2,000 snaps there in his career. The three time All-Big 10 selection only gave up 5 sacks in 3 years for the Wildcats and was one of the top left tackles in the country in 2021 and 2022.
Skoronski is a technically sound versatile tackle with a significant amount of experience. As a run blocker he shoots out with excellent leverage and maintains a wide base while engaged. He strikes defenders with quick and accurate punches. Skoronski shows a willingness and ability to finish his blocks through the whistle. As a move blocker he shows exceptional first step quickness to cut off backside defenders or reach on the play side. There are times where Skoronski fails to react to quickness while blocking at the second level. Quicker defenders are able to sidestep him out in space more often than you would like. Length is also a question for him in the run game where long power defenders are able to get into his frame and dictate reps. Skoronski is scheme versatile in the run game with the ability to play both guard and tackle.
Length is also the main question for Skoronski in the passing game as well. His arms come in below the typical 33” threshold for tackles and it shows on tape. Defenders are able to use long arms and speed to power to attack his frame and reset the pocket. Games in 2021 against NFL caliber talent in George Karlaftis, Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo really exposes this weakness in his game. Outside of his length however Skoronski is an exceptional pass blocker. His initial punches are quick and accurate and he is very adept at resetting his hands when his initial punches miss. Skoronski also displays a strong inside hand to close off rushers when his gate swings too wide. He displays quick and efficient footwork to mirror rushers in space. Skoronski’s foot speed grants him above average redirection and recovery ability in pass protection. A multi year starter at LT, Skoronski passes off stunts consistently and does a tremendous job squeezing the B-Gap when not immediately engaged.
Skoronski is an extremely refined tackle with tons of experience and the movement skills to be a franchise tackle. His biggest question will be whether his below average length means he must move to the inside. Skoronski has the versatility and football IQ to play anywhere along the offensive line and many think he has All-Pro upside at guard. Personally I think he has shown enough to warrant starting at LT to begin his career with his inside versatility being a nice bonus. Skoronski projects as a scheme versatile tackle who should be a plug and play starter at the next level. His technique and movement skills give him one of the highest floors in this class even if the ceiling might not quite be up to par with others in this class.
