Summary
Roschon Johnson or the “other Texas running back” is more than just Bijan’s backup. Johnson in his own right is a very good prospect that thrives between the tackles and with power. Johnson lacks the home run ability or the elusiveness in the open field his back field mate possesses but he is a dependable north south runner. A bigger back he has a no nonsense running style that thrives on gap runs and in high leverage areas. His thick lower half allows him to run through most arms tackles. Johnson also has a knack for falling forward for hidden yards. As the secondary back Johnson was used a lot as a blocker both in the run and pass game out of Pony personnel. These reps translate to pass blocking where he is an intelligent and willing pass protector. Not a natural receiver by any means Johnson does have dependable hands and transitions fairly well from receiver to runner for a man of his size. Johnson will never likely have the billing of a super star running back to due lack of big play traits. However in the right situation with a bigger role Johnson should end up being an above average NFL starter that doesn’t have a ton of tread on his tires. With his leg drive, contact balance and three down ability he should be a reliable starter for any team he ends up on.
