Summary
Will Anderson has been one of the most dominant defenders in college football over the past 3 years. Amassing over 30 sacks for one of the best teams in the sport during that time frame. The former 5 star recruit has long been billed as a top NFL prospect and he has more than lived up to the hype. Anderson is everything you want from a top EDGE prospect in terms of athleticism, IQ and technique. As a run defender he plays with outstanding leverage and power at the point of attack. There may be questions about his sub-250 lb frame but you wouldn't know it from watching him play. He displays outstanding burst and lateral mobility as a run defender that make him difficult to scheme out of a play. A highly intelligent player Anderson displays excellent read and react skills. As a rusher he displays elite first step quickness with little wasted movement. His ability to turn the corner and attack the quarterback's up field shoulder makes him a terror off the edge. An excellent arsenal of pass rush moves both with speed and power make him difficult to gameplan for. He will need to continue to add moves when he gets to the next level so he is less predictable as a rusher. Anderson’s hands are quick and accurate, he does an excellent job of preventing lineman from grabbing a hold of him. Anderson is extremely adept at rushing within his lane to prevent QBs from scrambling. He does a great job of disengaging from blockers to pick up ad-libbing signal callers. A trait he showed more in 2022 as teams began to gameplan for him and he played more 5T and 4i. 2022 had less splash plays as he was forced to play out of position, playing with his hand in the dirt more. Anderson likely will only be a stand up end at the next level where his athleticism will stand out. Anderson has all the physical tools to be a top tier pass rusher in the NFL. When those tools are layered on top of high IQ, and a relentless motor you get a top of the draft caliber prospect. Anderson should challenge to not just be the top defender off the board but the top player when the draft starts.
