Summary
Roger Rosengarten is a former 4-star offensive lineman and two sport star from Colorado. A staple at right tackle for the Washington Huskies the past two years, the Redshirt Junior logged over 900 snaps in back to back seasons without allowing a sack. Rosengarten has good size for a tackle at almost 6’ 6” and excellent movement skills to boot. He is at his best as a blocker when asked to win out in space. A strong blend of quickness and balance leads to him being particularly effective on zone scheme runs, as well as on screens and as a puller. The same athleticism translates to pass protection where Rosengarten does an excellent job matching speed rushers on an island. His lateral agility and experience shine in pass protection where he is able to alter his set points to keep defenders on their toes. Rosengarten has quick accurate hands, he is able to vary his punch timing and placement to consistently disarm defenders. He also does an excellent job resetting his hands when his initial strikes are fail to gain control. Despite his impressive size, Rosengarten struggles to create push at the point of attack in the run game. At 311 pounds he is on the lighter side for a tackle. A combination of marginal weight and issues with keeping his pad level down limit Rosengarten’s ability to access his full strength. The same issues with strength and power also show up in pass protection, where bull rushes can generate significant knockback in the event that his hands do not connect on their initial punch. Rosengarten has below average length for the tackle position with just over 33 inch arms and it really shows up when tasked with taking on defenders who like to use a long arm move. He does have the balance and flexibility to settle down an anchor in his rushes but will need to improve his initial strength to be better equipped to handle power rushers at the next level. Rosengarten projects as a Day 2 developmental tackle who best fits in a zone blocking scheme. His experience, size and movement skills are an intriguing package for teams in need of a right tackle. It may take some time for him to settle at the next level as he improves his play strength but he profiles as a solid NFL starter with good upside.
