Scouting Report
Cameron Williams is a former 3-Star recruit from the state of Texas. He spent his first two years with the Longhorns on the bench before starting at RT in 2024. Williams played in 15 games for Texas. with his only missed game coming in the Peach Bowl due to a knee sprain.
Williams possesses an ideal build for an NFL tackle with long thick limbs and a dense frame. He is extremely powerful through his upper body and hands, with the strength to rip defenders out of the way. Williams is at his best as a gap scheme blocker, where he can use his size to wash down linemen out of the play. His heavy hands have vice-like grip strength to attach and control his targets. While not the most athletic, he is able to get out of his stance as a puller and fit up his assignments, looking to finish smaller players in space. In pass protection, Williams’ wide heavy frame is difficult to get quickly around or through. His strong punches instantly halt the momentum of rushers working up the field. He also show the length to recover and extend rush paths when beat.
Williams is a young player - he won’t turn 22 until October of his rookie year - with still quite a ways to go. A one year starter with limited experience, his overall technique and processing lags behind many of his peers in this class. Despite his grip strength and length, Williams struggles to consistently control his blocks due inconsistent hand placement. His feet and hands are often out of sync, creating imbalance in his game and too many reps where he ends up on the turf. Williams is an average athlete and lacks the tools to compensate for a lack of technique. He doesn’t project well into zone schemes due to a lack of lateral quickness and fluidity. Stiff knees create a naturally high point of leverage and reduce his movement skills and access to his power. In pass protection Williams will often freeze his feet when throwing his punches, creating soft corners for speed rushers. He lacks the agility to quickly redirect and mirror counters when out of position. Williams hands are effective when they land but they are slow and inaccurate. He is tardy to get them up and protect his chest versus bull rushers and is also slow to get his feet set in preparation to anchor versus power rushers.
Williams profiles best as a RT in a gap scheme. The physical tools and size look the part of an NFL tackle, but average athleticism and technique create a project at this time. Williams is talented enough that he should go sometime on Day-2, but is a player who requires a redshirt year before seeing the field.
