Scouting Report
Jordan Burch is a former 5-Star recruit from the state of South Carolina. He spent his first three years at the University of South Carolina before transferring to Oregon. where he was a two-time All-Conference honoree. Burch is an experienced player, logging over 300 snaps in four straight seasons, with tons of past pedigree.
Burch is a big edge who carries 280 pound extremely well. He is a gifted athlete for his size, with the movement skills of a much smaller player. Burch was a consistent disruptor during his time in college, but had a breakout season with 10 sacks in 2024. He is at his best as a speed rusher from wide or condensed alignments. He has the quickness to win up the field by either shoulder with the bend to dip around blockers. Burch is a flexible athlete who can quickly generate power out of his stance to create knockback as a rusher. His dense frame is able to stay on path through the half shoulder to the quarterback, where he is a strong finisher. Burch is at his best in the run game in single gap schemes on the edge. He has the quickness to win as a penetrator and can maintain his leverage against reach blocks due to plus agility. He also has the anchor and length to separate and shed from base blocks at the point of attack where he is a sound tackler.
Burch is a physically gifted athlete, but his impact on the game is inconsistent. He is far from a finished product and has large stretches of games where he disappears, an issue only increased by a hot and cold motor. Burch primarily relies on his athleticism to win as a rusher. He has a poor pass rush plan that lacks cohesion. He needs to improve the speed and violence of his hands to get quick wins and find more fluid ways to transition to his counters. Burch has the body type that would indicate a fit in an odd front, but doesn’t play up to his size in the run game. He lacks violence or aggression when taking on blockers and is easily moved aside by double teams. He is slow to read and react in the run game with below average block deconstruction. Burch’s effort as backside run defender is lackluster and allows backs to hit cutbacks through his assigned gap.
Burch profiles best as a big end in even fronts who slides inside on rush downs. His physical profiles and pass rush ability should allow him to be a scheme and alignment versatile defender but he needs the mental side of his game to catch up. Burch projects as a Top-100 pick, as a upside player with rotation ability early in his career and starter potential down the line.
