Scouting Report
Princely Umanmielen is a former 4-Star recruit from the state of Texas. He began his career at Florida, where he started 24 games across 4 seasons, receiving All-SEC honors in 2023. Umanmielen transferred to Ole Miss for his 5th season of college football, where he was a All-SEC player once again, after posting Top-15 pass rush metrics across the board.
Umanmielen is an explosive and twitchy rusher with plus length. He was extremely productive during his upper classman years, posting 25 plus pressures in three straight campaigns, and capping it all off with an 55 pressure, 11 sack season in 2024. Umanmielen is a prototypical speed rusher. His first step burst and long strides allow him to quickly get upfield to take the edge. His feet are like a guards in basketball ,with easy stop-start ability to change up his timings and carve up tackles in space. He is quick to change directions and shows a solid spin move and euro step to counter back inside. Umanmielen is a bendy slippery rusher who is able to quickly drop his weight and turn the corner. He does an excellent job rotating his frame to reduce contact as he runs the hoop. Umanmielen isn’t known for his run defense, but his athletic ability allows him to chase down ball carriers in space and win upfield on stunts and twists.
Umanmielen is a lighter edge at 244 pounds (6th percentile) with below average play strength. He is primarily a finesse player who avoids contact and can be take, out of plays, and large stretches of games, by physical linemen. Umanmielen will likely be a designated pass rusher early in his career, as he lacks the size to hold up in the run game. He is slow to disengage from blocks and leverage his gap and is easily washed out of the play when linemen get ahold of him. Umanmielen’s lack of power also shows up as a pass rusher. He primarily wins with speed and cannot collapse the pocket when asked. For this reason it is vitally important for him to improve his pass rush arsenal, an area of his game that is lacking, because his speed won’t be able to bail him out forever. Umanmielen shows poor hand usage in all facets of his game, with a very shallow collection of rush moves. He relies more on winning with his feet and a remedial rip and club move, than any true rush rush plan. He will have to create a more cohesive set of moves to live up to his ceiling at the next level.
Umanmielen profiles an OLB in a 3-4 scheme. He lacks the size or run defense to be much more than an DPR early in his career, but his speed and pass rush juice will improve most rotations. Umanmielen profiles as a Day-2 pick for a team in need of a rotational speed rusher with upside.
