Scouting Report
Romello Height is a former 4-Star recruit from the state of Georgia, who initially committed to Auburn out of high school back in 2020. He finishes his collegiate career with stops at four different schools, including USC and Georgia Tech, before finishing out his six year journey at Texas Tech in 2025. Height was one of the best pure pass rushers in the country for the Red Raiders this past year — finishing Top-25 in both pressures and sacks — enroute to 1st Team All-Big 12 honors.
Height is the exact prototype typically seen in designated speed rushers. He is undersized with a lean frame, but makes up for it with elite burst and bend. He is a dynamic speed rusher with the juice to win around the upfield shoulder of tackles. Height is a fluid mover who can quickly stop his rush and counter back inside if needed. He has a quality collection of moves, including a speed-dip and spin move to keep linemen guessing over the course of a game. He consistently shows the ability to drop his weight and turn the arc to create pressure in the backfield. Height impacts the run game in many of the same ways. He is a disruptive penetrator who uses his quickness to attack mesh points. He is smooth to redirect and chase ball carriers when forced out into space, and is slippery through traffic in pursuit.
Height’s value as a prospect and pro will mostly stem from his ability to rush the passer, because he lacks the frame to be a good run defender. At 240 pounds, he is only really equipped to be a standup OLB in 3-4 schemes, and lacks much versatility. He struggles to hold up at the point of attack versus pullers and base blocks. His short arms create issues extending blockers and preventing opponents from controlling him and steering him out of the play. Even on reps where he is being a disruptive player, Height is inconsistent. His desire to attack upfield runs him out of plays and creates easy rushing lanes for backs underneath. His short arms also limit him as a tackler. He lacks the radius or grip strength to corral quicker players, and his out of control rush style led to extremely high miss rates in both 2024 and 2025.
Height profiles best as a pass rush specialist 3-4 OLB. His juice and production will be valued traits at the next level, but for a player who doesn’t project to be an every down player his ceiling his capped. Height projects best as a Day-2 player given his flawed profile and age.
