Scouting Report
Shemar Stewart is a former 5-Star recruit from Florida, where he was a two-sport star in football and basketball. He was a three year contributor for Texas A&M, receiving SEC All-Freshman honors in 2022 and 3rd Team All-SEC honors in 2024.
Shemar Stewart is a massive defender at over 6’ 5”, 285 lbs with a 7 foot plus wingspan. He possesses rare physical tools with the movement skills of a much smaller player. Stewart has a wrecking ball play style creating havoc with his size and quickness off the edge. He displays the upfield burst to quickly win up the field and create splash plays. He also has the strength to take on blocks on the edge and hold his ground. Stewart plays with a strong motor and has the long speed to make chase down tackles from the backside of formations. He wins similarity as a pass rusher as he does run defense, with speed and power. Stewart shows the burst to attack the upfield shoulder of tackles and win the edge. He does an excellent job converting his speed to power to attack lineman’s chests to collapse the pocket. Stewart is at his best as a power rusher. He has a wicked long arm that weaponizes heavy hands and his massive wingspan. He is also a terror on stunts and twists given his movement skills at his size.
Stewart is a pure tools over technique player at this point in his career, relying on his physical gifts to win above all else. As a run defender he will often overrun plays, creating easy rushing lanes underneath him. He displays poor instincts and awareness often letting ball carriers run right by him. He is particularly susceptible to misdirection and option plays that force him to read and react. As a pass rusher Stewart displays very little plan of attack. He has only a few basic moves with virtually no counters. His hands are slow to fire and their placement is very inconsistent. If Stewart cannot win with his initial rush it often stalls quite quickly. He generated a good amount of pressures in 2024 but converted only a small number into sacks. Stewarts thick frame lacks the top end bend that elite sack artists usually display and can struggle to turn the corner at the top of his rushes. He also comes in extremely out of control, often missing his target entirely. His tackling woes have been a multi year issue as both a pass rusher and run defender.
Stewart profiles best as a 5T in an even front single gap defense. His rare physical tools and effort are Top-10 worthy but he is still very raw. Stewart profiles as a late first round pick but with his physical gifts at only 21 years old it would not be shocking to see him rise all the way into the first half of Day 1.
