Scouting Report
Terrance Ferguson is a former 4-Star recruit from Colorado. In high school he was a football and basketball stand out, with legit FBS offers for both sports. Ferguson has been a multi year contributor for the Ducks, with 3-straight 30+ catch seasons and All-Conference honors in 2022 and 2023.
Ferguson is a solid athlete with plus size and length for the position. He has experience aligning at a variety of spots, including in-line, wing and slot. He is a fluid route runner with the flexibility to quickly get out of his breaks. Ferguson does an excellent job attacking the leverage of defenders in off coverage to create space to get open. He is a long strider with the speed to threaten up the seam and after the catch with the ball in his hands. He is quick to turn upfield and shows nice wiggle to slip the first tackler in space. Ferguson’s athletic ability allows him to work out in space as a blocker and to the 2nd level. He was often used coming across formations or leading up on linebackers in the hole from those wing alignments. He is a willing blocker who brings power behind his pads when meeting defenders in the hole.
Ferguson has a taller frame that could stand to add more mass. He has below average weight and play strength for the position. As a result, he struggles to create push at the point of attack when matched up with lineman. Even when Ferguson is able to get good initial knockback, he struggles to sustain blocks. His hand placement is often too wide, which allows defenders to easily slip off his blocks. He has a bad habit of lunging, especially in space, only getting glancing shots on his target. Ferguson has average foot speed, which limits his ability to get seals late in reps, particularly working on the backside of formations. He has the frame to add mass and become a functional in-line blocker, but right now his technique is such a mess it doesn’t matter. As a receiver, Ferguson fails to play up to his size at the catch point. He was one of the worst at his position when it came to converting contested catches in 2024, with a 25% conversion rate. His bad habit of rounding the top of his routes allows defenders back into plays, and makes catches more difficult for him than they need to be. For a player with average physical tools, he will have to polish up the finer points of his game if he wants to see consistent playing time.
Ferguson profiles as a TE2 with the versatility to fit a couple different roles. His solid route running and effort as a blocker given his frame, gives him the upside to be a starter, even if his ceiling isn’t crazy high. Ferguson projects as a late Day-2/early Day-3 pick as a high floor backup with starter potential down the line.
