Summary
Bralen Trice is a powerful EDGE rusher who wins with effort and strength. The former 3-Star recruit led all of college football in pressures in both 2022 and 2023, being awarded First Team All Pac-12 honors in the process. Trice has a thick stocky body with excellent strength in his lower half. He has the balance and core strength to take on and neutralize blocks at the point of attack in the run game. Trice plays with good leverage as a run defender. He utilizes his heavy hands to shed blocks and make tackles in the hole. He displays tremendous effort in backside pursuit as both a run defender and pass rusher. Trice primarily wins as a pass rusher with his power. He combines good upfield burst and excellent play strength to blow through the chest of offensive lineman. He is particularly adept at attacking lineman’s half shoulder to create disruption. Despite all the pressure production Trice does struggle to convert sacks, especially against top competition. He lacks the typical bend or flexibility needed to turn the corner and come flat to quarterbacks. He also is limited in terms of lateral quickness and arm length, two deficiencies that lead to struggles finishing tackles. Trice is inconsistent at corralling mobile QBs and quicker ball carriers, a flaw that has resulted in a 26% career missed tackle rate. Trice projects as a starting 5T in an even front with the ability to reduce inside on true passing downs. He lacks the typical bend or movement skills of an elite pass rusher but displays NFL caliber strength and toughness. Trice fits best as a secondary pass rusher who excels at defending the run and winning his 1 on 1’s against an offenses weaker tackle. He should find his name called sometime on Day 2 as a plug and play starter.
