Summary
Jordan Morgan is an athletic tackle who is at his best as a zone blocker out in space. The former 3-Star recruit from Arizona played over 2,400 snaps at left tackle for the Wildcats, receiving All-Pac 12 honors in 2022 and 2023. Morgan is a good athlete for the position, with the quickness to smoothly get to blocks in space. Arizona primarily ran zone concepts which highlighted Morgan’s movement skills, routinely reaching frontside defenders and easily climbing to the 2nd level. He displays loose hips that allow him flip around and get position on defenders, sealing them off. He displays excellent grip strength to take hold and control reps. Morgan’s athletic ability translates smoothly to pass protection. He has the quickness and agility to mirror rushers in space, as well as the redirect to protect his inside shoulder. He does an excellent job of changing up his set points to disrupt defenders pass rush plans. His hands are quick and active, working to resent constantly and find a hand hold. For all his athletic gifts Morgan struggles to cut off backside blockers in the run game. He displays inconsistent land marks and high pad level that negate his quick first step. He must improve his body control and balance in space as well, often getting caught lunging out over his knees. Morgan is a finesse tackle who prefers to win with quickness and positioning as opposed to power and strength. He does not create displacement at the point of attack in the run game. His hands lack pop and needs to become better at firing them more aggressively and take charge of reps. He also lacks the mean streak and toughness offensive line coaches typically like to see from their starting tackles. Morgan’s lack of length - he has sub-33” arms, below the typical tackle threshold - is a major issue in pass protection. Longer defenders are able to separate at the top of their rushes and get short corners. He can also struggle with oversetting and exposing his inside shoulder. Morgan’s pad level issues in the run game also show up in pass protection. Defenders with good leverage can get under his pads and drive him back. He does have the flexibility to absorb this contact but must improve this aspect of his game if he wants to stick at tackle in the NFL. Morgan projects as a starting level tackle who best fits in a zone blocking scheme. His issues with length and balance may indicate a future home at guard, a position he would be excellent at, but given his movement skills and hand usage he will get a shot at tackle first. Morgan’s range starts late Day 1 given his versatility and zone blocking fit, he should be an easy Top-50 pick come draft night.
