Summary
Kamari Lassiter committed to Georgia as a 4-Star recruit and the #8 overall player from the state of Alabama in 2021. The one time All-SEC CB and two time National Champion appeared in 43 games across three seasons for the Bulldogs, starting in 28 of them. Lassiter is a well rounded player who wins in coverage with his quickness and intelligence. He is at his best in man coverage showing the ability to play outside or in the slot from a variety of pre-snap alignments. Lassiter has the lateral agility to match angles in press and uses quick strikes to disrupt release timings. He does a great job anticipating routes and cutting his mark off before they can get to full speed. When Lassiter does get beat off the line he rarely panics, relying on his quickness to stay in phase and mirror breaks. He is exceptional at staying attached to receivers hips on one cut horizontal routes. He is less effective in off-man or zone coverage where his average burst is more apparent. He works to make up for that with strong route recognition skills and consistent communication. Lassiter is an average athlete with only adequate long speed and as a result he struggles to contain WR1’s in man coverage as well as stick with deep threats vertically. Lassiter is excellent at limiting separation in coverage and shows the ball tracking skills and jump timing to break up passes. However his limited burst and arm length resulted in poor turnover productions in college (only 1 INT in 43 games). Lassiter is also a willing and able participant in the run game. He takes good angles in pursuit and understands how to use his leverage to spill ball carriers back to his help. While he can struggle to contain quicker players in the open field he was generally a sound tackler in college (8% career missed tackler rate) and is willing to throw his body into the mix. Lassiter is on the smaller side for a corner but he brings power behind his pads when he tackles and is not afraid of contact. He was also an effective blitzer due to his ability to time snap counts and disguise his looks. Lassiter projects as a starting corner in a secondary that likes to vary its coverage looks. While his lack of physical tools limits his ceiling and may indicate a long term home in the slot, his toughness, IQ and coverage skills should smoothly translate to the next level as a quality starter.
